NEWCASTLE HIGH RISE DESIGN PROPOSAL
The brief for this project was to provide 300 apartments on a 3,500m2, sloped block of land on Shortland Esplanade overlooking Newcastle Beach.
The brief suggested a landmark, highrise development, however this project intended to provide a building which was inherently responsive and considerate to the low-scale nature of Newcastle city.
The concept for the project is based on the Labyrinth, and strives for small moments of interest and intrigue as opposed to the modern notion of the building as a solitary, human-less monument. The design provides for maximum density within a 10 storey building, which intends to minimize its overall impact on the city and Newcastle Beach itself.
